A Validation Study of Triumph Learning Elementary, Middle, and High School Reading/Language Arts & Mathematics Coach Programs
Conducted in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas
Triumph Learning commissioned Lois Eskin Associates, an independent and respected educational research group, to conduct a statistically valid field study on the effects of Coach programs in helping students improve test scores. “Before and after” state test scores were collected from state department Web sites in seven states for schools using the Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics Coach books.
Teachers were then interviewed in roughly half of these schools to obtain information about the specific features and characteristics of the Coach books they believed had contributed to the improvement in their students’ scores. Their comments, as well as their schools’ test scores both before and after using Coach, are included in this report. Teacher quotes have been reviewed and approved by the teachers who spoke with Lois Eskin Associates. District data, obtained from Market Data Retrieval’s state school directories, are also included for each school to give the scores a demographic context. Note that ethnic data were not available for Tennessee.
We invite you to look over the performance results and read through the comments that are part of this report. You will see that Coach’s effectiveness was demonstrated time and again—across grades, subjects, and states. Coach books are the evidence-based student texts of choice to improve achievement and raise test scores.
